Florahealing is a story about seeds, pollination, desire, fertility, decay and artificiality. It is also my personal attempt to understand the fragility of the world, its underground strength, and all that cannot be controlled.

Florahealing, 2021, installation presented at galerie SONO, Paris, silk, dyes, natu-ral and plant dyes, 200x50x40 cm.

The shapes are reminiscent of a hybrid of plant and human systems : a cluster of pollen, embryonic seeds, pistils and female reproductive organs.

Silk material is dyed in my studio and is an allegory to the fragile but powerful beauty of the plant world. The crimson colours found on the lower part of the installation come from parasitic cochineal and chemically created dyes.

Slowly, moving upwards, the colours change freeing themselves from the artifice. Hibiscus and logwood convey bright, colorful but frivolous pigments, changing and evolving according to the water’s pH.

When we reach the top, the light pink hues represent a heavenly and fragile halo, made of safflower pigments disappearing after a few weeks in direct contact with light.

Florahealing represents upward mobility, from weighted permanence to ephemeral naturalness.
